New Line Graffiti Promotions (NLGP) is a legally constituted organisation that exists to support graffiti writers in creating a legal framework in which to work and to develop in both a professional and personal context. NLGP also aims to promote, maintain, improve and advance the education of graffiti issues through arts workshops with special reference to wider societal issues around graffiti.
In order to achieve these aims the organisation fully supports the development of legal graffiti sites, projects, events and exhibitions. NLGP fully supports the commissioning of legal graffiti work from local graffiti writers, and strives to co-operate with other organisations including Newcastle City Council, NEXUS, voluntary bodies, charities and the statutory authorities in encouraging the production of legal graffiti work. Membership is open to any individual who wishes to support these aims, subject to the approval of the management committee
NLGP’s diversionary and preventative interventions work on two levels. On one level we work with graffiti writers to help them develop their artistic skills and workshop facilitation skills through sharing our experience in order to be able to take on legal commissions and create legal artwork for curated group exhibitions. This helps graffiti writers build confidence in the legal uses of their abilities and encourages them to see themselves as artists and work as artists, developing their style and helping them to sell their artwork, thus becoming more professional and independent.
The other level of NLGP works with groups of young people from a variety of backgrounds helping them to understand the issues around graffiti. We do this by facilitating workshops that empower young people to make informed decisions about their lives that encourage them to steer away from involvement in criminal damage.
New Line has a management committee that delegates work/commissions to a number of its members. Our members are CRB searched and the organisation has public liability insurance to the value of £5m.
